Review: The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester by Barbara O’Connor

REVIEW

THE FANTASTIC SECRET OF OWEN JESTER
by Barbara O’Connor

Thank you Barbara for sending me a copy in exchange for my honest review!!

The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester is a really wonderful book that Barbara O’Connor created!

The action take place in summer and centers around a boy name Owen who caught the biggest bullfrog in the pond! But that is just the beginning of this summer adventure! The train which passes near the house of Owen seems to drop something by mistake, something that the boy must discover more about! What could that be?

Surrounded by his friends and also Viola, the annoying neighbour and know-it-all, Owen’s feelings change from day to day.

This is a really beautiful written book which brings in front the thoughts of children who don’t really understand things from the first time, who don’t want to listen to those who are right, like most children. It is really wonderful to see how the mind of a child is so confused and takes everything as a game, a self-enjoymeny.

I find the book educative since it makes childreen see that in their juvenille games they can hurt the living things around but also lets them see that they can make a choice and make things better.

It is also a funny book that all children can enjoy, and not only them!

The cover of the book is really wonderful and makes you wonder what this book is about! It’s all on the cover but you can figure it all out only by reading the book!

Quotes:

So instead of saying “Where?” Owen said, “Rocket”. […] They ran as fast as they could out of the barn, across the yard, down the path, through the woods, and around the pond. They crossed to the other side of the tracks, pushed their way through the scrubby bushes, and crawled up under the branches of an enormous rotten oak tree that had falled years ago and landed against a pine tree, forming a perfect tepee.

But Owen kept quiet. He knew that Tooley didn’t want to be the mayor of Frog town. Tooley wanted to be free.
