Below you can read Adrienne’s answers to the questions that I’ve asked her and after you can sign in the giveaway at the end of the post!

1. Hi Adrienne! Thank you for accepting this interview! How about telling us some things about yourself?

Adrienne: Thank you for having me! I’m so excited to meet readers from Romania! I guess I can start with the basics: I’m a writer from Toronto, Ontario Canada. I have two girls, aged 9 and 2 and I used to be an aspiring ballerina.

2. What is your book “To Dance In Liradon” about? Tell us a few words about it!

Adrienne:  Drawing on elements of Celtic Faerie mythology, To Dance in Liradon is filled with magic and romance, but it’s also a story about growing up, about the deceitful nature of appearances, and, most importantly, about what it is to be human and to love.

3. How did the idea for “To Dance In Liradon” come to you? Did you keep the original plot or did you change it as you  kept writing?

Adrienne: I’ve always had a passion for fairy tales and I knew one day I’d write a story about what happens when the human and Faerie worlds collide. Usually, the main idea for a story comes to me all at once and I write my first drafts fairly quickly. But then I need to go back and make it the story come alive on the page. I definitely made changes to the plot as I went along, but the main ideas stayed intact.

4. Any spoilers about the creation of the magical cover? The girl in the white dress really looks amazing while surrounded by all those sparkly stars!

Adrienne: Thank you, Simona! I’m so glad you like the cover. I was really anxious about what my publisher would come up with and I was so happy when I saw the final result. It was one of the best moments of my writing life. When you have a picture in your head about what your character should look like it’s very difficult to entrust that vision to someone else. Fortunately, my publisher has a wonderful cover artist and I think she really captured my book’s fairy tale flavour.

5. What are you favorite books/book series? You can make a top 5 if you want to!

Adrienne: My top five reads in no particular order are:

 1. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
2. Lady Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt
3. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
4. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
5. Who Do You Think You Are? by Alice Munro

6. Which authors do you consider to have been your inspiration?

Adrienne: There are so many authors whose work has inspired me, but I especially love C.S. Lewis, Patricia McKillip, Alice Munro, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Juliet Marllier and Alice Hoffman. A very eclectic group!

7. Where do you use to write your works? Any place in particular?

Adrienne: I have a desk in my older daughter’s room where I do a lot of writing, but sometimes I get lonely and then I need to go to a coffee shop where I can be around other people for awhile.

8. What country would you like your books to be popular in?

Adrienne: When it comes to art I really feel like a citizen of the world. I’m thrilled to think of people reading my books anywhere. That said, it is extra special to meet readers outside of my native Canada.  For me, the most beautiful thing about the internet is being able to meet readers from other countries that I’d never get to meet in my daily life.

9. What do you think about Romania, the contry I live in? Would you like to visit it one day?

Adrienne: I would love to visit Romania! The funny thing is I almost did. I lived in Slovenia for a year and my husband had the opportunity to go to Bucharest on business and I was all set to go, but then my daughter was ill so I missed my chance. But I definitely hope to go there one day. Romania has such a rich, folkloric history. I’d love to learn more about it.
